Remediation of industrial site, Salamanca, Mexico
Project description:
The remediation of the location “Tekchem“ in Salamanca, Federal State Guanajuato, is supported by the component “Contaminated Site Management and Revitalization of Brownfields” of the environmental program “Mexico” of GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH – German Society for International Cooperation) as part of a pilot project. HPC AG was contracted by GIZ / GOPA mbH, respectively, to investigate the geological conditions in the surroundings of the site and to elaborate a remediation concept.Reason:
- Present danger to local groundwater supply and public health
Services:
- Evaluation of existing documents (reports, expertise, official documents)
- Deficit analysis and structuring of work program
- Hydrogeological mapping of site surroundings
- Hydraulic Modelling (3D-finite-element-method)
- Elaboration of remediation concept, comprising of: Hydraulic safeguarding, Surface sealing
Advantages:
- Introduction of modern hydrogeological research methods in Mexico
- Introduction of European standards and evaluation methods for the remediation of contaminated sites

- Soil and groundwater contamination by pesticides
- Degradation products as well as halogenated hydrocarbons, amongst others
- Overall land area: ca. 150.000 m²
- 3 groundwater storeys affected
