Health Risk Assessment to define site-specific remediation goals for a large (700,000 m²) industrial facility in Sardinia. Site is classified ‘of national interest’ due to critical environmental situation and monitored directly by the Ministry of the Environment. Preliminary and operative remediation design. Contaminants of concern: heavy metals (mainly: Cd, Hg, Pb, Zn). Proposed remediation technologies: dig and disposal, capping and soil flushing. Estimated volume of contaminated soil: approx. 1,200,000 m³.

Diffused contamination caused by over 50 years of on-site industrial operations (metals processing)
